I’m thinking the latter, Chaos. This procedure, unless I miss my guess, disassociated the Lady from Jen’s consciousness. While this prevents the Lady from taking over Jen’s body anymore, and keeps her dormant while Jen is awake… it also allows her to operate independently of Jen; with her degree of ability, this gave her the opportunity to manifest independently whenever Jen’s consciousness is inactive.
It also did exactly what Dr. Eden said it would; with her mind sealed off from Jennifer’s, she’s less human and more herself. Or so it would seem, anyway.
