Dracula comes out during the day in the novel.
Going purely by Bram Stoker’s work (and of course there are tons of people who insist he modified it from earlier myths, but all of THOSE seem to have vampires bearing much more of a resemblance to succubi then our understanding of the undead), Dracula could walk during the day, but other vampires seemed not to be able to.
The way this seems to be justified, usually, is that Dracula’s exceptional *power* let him walk about during the day, while lesser vampires could not. Alternately, it’s not that the sun is lethal to the undead, just highly unpleasant.
As a current pop-media iteration of the Count puts it, “To me, the sun isn’t some great enemy. I just *hate it*.”
