The hormones that are released in the event of an emotion, and other such things, are only the body's way of acting upon what has already taken place in the spirit. But I guess that's just one way of looking at it. (Of course, this viewpoint makes one wonder why brain damage affects one's personality... I would say the answer to that is that the brain is the anchor for the soul in the realm of the physical, and that when it is damaged, part of the soul is no longer represented in and able to interact with the physical world.
