If we removed the ocean between two continents we wouldn't then say "look at that! It's two continents right next to each other!" we would think of it as one continent. If two planets weren't separated by space, we wouldn't think "Look at that! two planets right next to each other!" we'd say "isn't it odd that half of this planet is really different than the other half?" and if there was something such that there were no observable boundaries, we'd think it was all there ever was. If the were only one observable planet, we'd think of it as "the planet" and if there was only one observable universe we'd call it "the universe", and that is the only time there were no boundaries. the reason boundaries exist is because that is the way that we define things.
